The Monza Project - II

Looks like we are starting a new project and just like the last one we will try to keep you all up to date on the progress as it goes.
This is our second early 1970's 19' Monza Marine in about as many years. Very odd to come up with two of the same unique boats so close together but when we found it just five miles from the shop we had to save it.
A young kid bought it off of Craig's List a year or so ago and got in way over his head so we gladly took it off his hands.
We don't really have as much time to blog about it as it happens like a couple restores in the past so we thought we would just make a movie about the progress. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If that's the case then the movie should be good for at least 2 billion of them.

The boat was a wreck to say the least but that was expected. There wasn't much there to begin with and what was there wasn't really worth keeping. It had a Chris Craft 307ci Chevy motor with a OMC electric shift stringer drive. As you can see in the picture there was some issues with the motor. What you cant see is the motor hatch was left off for 2 hurricanes during the summer so you know it filled with water but I think the freeze damage killed it long before.

So we made some deals on a couple big parts and dug out a few things from the shop and made a go at it. The first thing is the broken up Chevy and OMC had to go, all of it. From there we stripped the boat down to the bare hull. Took all the bottom paint off  then fixed and repainted it the original white. All the body work was done and finished off with Pure White on the deck and Marlot paint on the hull and deck stripe (the motor accent colors used the same Marlot color). The transom was also fixed to accept the new Volvo 290.
And so much more.........
Time To Go To Work!

We're sure we have missed a few things that we did. The boat is finished and off to a new home so it's all kind of a blur now.
It was sad for us but this one also had to go. It definitely should have been on our keeper list but we only have so much room.
She is sweet. Looks like pure class with the color combination of the hull, deck and interior. Add in the tinted windshield, oak dash and almost new everything and wow!
Picture don't do it justice.

It looks better on water.
It was bought by a gentleman who's son also has one of these classics (not one of ours). They are going to look nice side by side.
